Welcome back to the alopecia Angel podcast. I am your host Johanna Dahlman and today we are talking about if it's possible to have different types of hair loss all at once. In my experience with my own hair loss with my own alopecia, for those of you don't know I had alopecia areata which was moving fast into totalis. I had lost 50% of my hair and my stylist Marcos of over 30 years told me “Johanna you have alopecia areata, you need to go see a doctor” that's what he told me, and that's kind of like how everything started, but at the same time of going through areata, of going through seeing one patch and a second patch and a third patch pop up seeing the patches connect seeing the receding hairline go back back seeing the eyebrows and the eyelashes fall out, I knew I was going into totalis and all at the same time I also saw just massive amounts of shedding massive so having spots bald spots areata is one thing and having the massive shed that's telogen effluvium.

That's the second type of alopecia. So, from my own experience, personally I knew that this was probably happening to many more people out there and this is also potentially why there’s a situation with being misdiagnosed many times when my customers and my clients come to me they have and they say that they have multiple types of hair loss, because most people when you have a situation like hair loss you start googling, you start looking online, you start seeing what does this resemble, what could this possibly look like and even when you go to a doctor.

In episode 10, I have an interview with a client who has scarring Alopecia and she saw hair growth in the program. The thing is it's like she had five different diagnosis she had five different doctors tell her five different things, and it could be a variation you know because scarring itself has different subcategories.

Alopecia is just one big name brand for hair loss but then after that then you have a bunch of different types. You can have areata like I did but you could also have telogen effluvium like I did and you can also have potentially even one more like androgenic and even when I think back about to the most recent clients that I've had, a lot of them don't even know they don't know the type they just know it's too much for them or they know that they have bald spots but maybe it doesn't look like the classic pictures that you would see online, or maybe they think it's androgenic but it doesn't necessarily fit, but it fits the most or the best out of everything that they've seen read or heard in this case you know the way you treat hair loss is a little more complex.

Healing the areata and the telogen effluvium at the same time was probably just as challenging as as it's been for all of you. You definitely can overcome it, it's also about the strategy the approach and how to mitigate it and also who you're talking to who can help you get to those results.

The other thing I wanted to mention about having multiple different types of hair loss is that you can have different types of hair loss throughout different types of your life so for example you can have postpartum hair loss. If you didn't have a baby and you have hair loss then then we already know there's an imbalance.

You also have different other types of hair loss that could come at a different situation and a lot of that is also Under the Umbrella of telogen effluvium and that also has a different type of you know root causes and situations that it can and cannot pertain to and so healing the hair loss is definitely possible and what I want to bring to you is to say that once you start that healing Journey it's not about if it's about when it's not if you will see the hair growth it's when you will see the hair growth and regardless whether you have areata or totalis or universalis regardless of how long you’ve had it, regardless of all the misdiagnosis or the different experts or doctors that you've spoken to.

Healing and reversing alopecia is possible and I'm first and foremost the proof in the pudding in that sense because I've had it myself and it's been more than eight years later and after a pregnancy, after covid, after stressful times it hasn't come back also because you know how to mitigate it.

The beautiful thing about my situation is that once I learned how to heal my hair loss then I have already the tools and the knowledge to supersede and intersect should there be a future potential possibility so for example with covid, pregnancy, stressful times areata has never come back but it's also because I know exactly what to do to ensure that it doesn't come back.

Same thing happens if I were to get pregnant again have another baby I can mitigate that postpartum hair loss and that's exactly actually what I did with my first baby and so if you're in a situation where maybe you're about to give birth or maybe that you are in the middle of postpartum hair loss you can mitigate that, you can shorten that just like you can optimize yourself to have more hair growth per month, you can also optimize and maybe mitigate the hair loss that you are losing on average it takes two to four weeks for my clients to see the hair loss or the hair shed to stop altogether, balance out and then keep moving forward towards hair growth.

There are ways, there are techniques in order to do this and again no one's teaching you this. This is something that my parents didn't teach me, this is something that I had to learn because I went through the situation myself. I hope this helps to understand to get clarity that yes you can have multiple different types of hair loss at the same time. I see it with my clients and I also thought and experienced it firsthand and myself.

Yes, you can overcome it whichever type it is including I believe to a certain degree scarring and I have podcast number 10, 24 and 60 for you to to hear more about that and in regards to Healing areata healing totalis, healing universalis regardless of the age, race, ethnicity or how long you've had it.

There’s always an opportunity to heal and I like to say, as long as your heart is beating, as long as you're breathing air and there's a will, an actual desire to heal this and be done with it once and for, all you got to do is easy.

You can do this, anyone can do this, just like anyone can run a mile in four minutes, anyone can do a marathon, anyone can go to school, anyone can do this so this is important for you, important for your health and important for your future.

I look forward to speaking to you on the next time. Thank you so much and take care.
