Hello everybody and welcome back to the Alopecia Angel podcast. I am your host Johanna Dahlman and today we are going to be talking about why you shouldn't be drinking celery juice, why this is creating actually more hair loss and why you should just stop. And you know it's 2024, we're moving into 2025 and I would hope by now that society has learned that the one size fits all doesn't work. It doesn't work for clothing, it doesn't work for diets, it doesn't work for lifestyle, it doesn't work for anything, it really doesn't. The one size fits all does not work.
I reiterate this over and over again. It really doesn't. So if there's anything out there that you see as a one size fits all, whether that's a laser cap, a PRP, a multivitamin, anything else, don't waste your time or your money on it. That's first and foremost. You really are doing yourself a disservice. The thing is, we are all so very unique, all so specialized, all have our own nuances. I'm really speaking about those that are over the age of 20, with children, it's a little different, we can go ahead and give them a multi, we can go ahead and do little things like this, that tend to be a one size fits all, but if they have the autoimmune alopecia, it's not going to be a one size fits all. It won't ever be. Even if you have, let's say a stress induced hair loss, or let's say it's hormonal or thyroid or anything that you want to box yourself into, it still will not look the same as everyone else.
I will say that the celery juice trend has been overflowing me with all the clients from medical medium, all the clients from anyone who's been doing the celery juice cleanse or diet, and all of their clients are coming to me because it's backfiring. Because you look at this book that's based on celery juice, you look at it and it contains over a hundred different types of diseases. And the author is saying: Hey, we can heal all of these 100+ diseases with just celery juice. That's Incorrect and it's incorrect, not because I've investigated all the rest of the diseases. No, it's because with just hair loss alone, you cannot heal with celery juice. First and foremost, it's not going to happen.
And I will say just like anything new that you may do, maybe you start to see: Oh, I have this feeling, or I have these positive aspects of it. And not to say that there are not positive aspects, but the thing is, it's like we shouldn't be doing things without full guidance, without a tailored approach. And this is why the Hair N' Heal program was created, because it needs to be a tailored approach, even if we all had the same type of hair loss, the strategy for each person will not look the same because we are all so different. This is why I've had success in over 67 countries. Because again, we all have so different types of diet and lifestyles of like where we come from our ethics or values what we don't do, what we want what we don't want and it's gonna look different. And ofcourse time of life and as whether I'm dealing with somebody who's 20 years old or 80 years old and anything in between that time of life is also going to look so different.
So going back to the celery juice craze that I've been seeing here lately, and literally it's been for like the last year and a half all of medical mediums clients who are suffering from hair loss are coming to me and which is great because at the same time they see the hair growth with me, but which is also bad. And this is also why I wanted to create a podcast episode about this because this celery juice craze and phenomenon trend diet. However you want to say, diets come and go, whether it's Atkins, whether it's the South beach diet, whether it's any other type of diet that you could think of. They may be helpful for a small portion of the population, but it's not going to be helpful for everybody across the board. It just won't. And this is something that I really want to drive home because what I've seen with my clients who've done the celery juice cleanses.
The celery juice diets and all this, they actually come to me so much more depleted than what they were before they even started. And with some research, I started seeing that celery juice has multiple negative effects, including skin sensitivity. Celery juice contains psolarens which can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, increasing your risk of skin cancer and other skin problems. I bet you that was not mentioned anywhere in the book, was it? Nor was it mentioned in any pamphlet that you might've seen that the benefits of the celery juice, they probably didn't tell you: Hey, your skin is going to be more sensitive to sunlight. Hence your risk for skin cancer. No one is talking about this, huh?
Digestive issues. This is actually very common across the board throughout all the clients that I've seen who've done the celery juice diet. And who've come to me because they're looking for answers on their own, trying to piecemeal their own situation together. They stumble upon this diet thinking it's a cure all, and it's not, and it backfires. They come to me with digestive issues. Celery juice can cause digestive issues, including bloating, gas, diarrhea. This is because the starch in celery ferments in the gut. This is problematic, especially for those with autoimmune, but even when you don't have an autoimmune issue, you can still have the digestive issues.
Allergic reactions. Some people may be allergic to celery, which can cause symptoms like itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing. In rare cases, a person with celery allergy may experience anaphylaxis, a potentially deadly allergic reaction. But what this article is also not saying and telling us is that allergic reactions can happen because of a interaction. Let's say an interaction with medications. Celery juice can interact with some medications, including sedatives, thyroid medications, and those that control bleeding, clotting, or blood pressure, which, has a trickle down effect, which has a domino effect. So doing things willy nilly on your own doesn't tend to lead to results.
And I say this because, my own struggle was 4 years, if you don't know, my own struggle with hair loss was 4 years. And within those 4 years, there was a lot of mistakes, there was a lot of setbacks. There was a lot of failed attempts, there was a lot of things that, I just pushed through, but at the same time do you really want to do that?
I don't think you do, I think you're probably tired of that. And maybe you have been considering this diet, but at the same time, I'm telling you right now, like I'm going to give you the black box warning of the celery juice diet, because it's not the way it's specially, it's not a cure all for over a hundred diseases. That's. ridiculous in many ways.
And at the same time, what I've seen across the board from all the clients who've come to me, having done the celery juice diet is again, they're depleted, they have digestive issues, they've seen extensive hair loss. And this doesn't include people who are autoimmune. This is actually more than half of the people who've done the celery juice diet, who are my clients now. They have either a female pattern baldness, or they have other types, let's say diffuse or telogen effluvium, or scarring, or traction, and they think that this is the way, and it's not the way. It's not the way. It really isn't.
A lot of other side effects to the celery juice diet is blood sugar spikes. Removing most of the fiber and sugar from celery when it's juiced can lead to blood sugar spikes, which can make you feel tired and weak. Low fiber content. Juicing removes fiber from the celery, so celery juice has less fiber than raw celery. Do you want to eat celery on a regular basis? Go ahead because you're eating the fiber and everything else that goes with it. But just juicing it takes out a lot of the necessary things that creates better health. This means that celery juice is digested more quickly, which can lead to feeling hungry again soon after drinking it. Celery juice diets can lead to kidney problems. Celery contains oxalates, which can lead to kidney stones and other kidney problems. So those are just a handful of things that celery juice can do to you.
And again, people are not talking about this. People are not letting you know that it can also create difficulty breathing, hives, abdominal pain, rapid heartbeat, low blood pressure, dizziness, cardiac arrest. There's a lot of things that are perpetrated as saying that they're healthy for you. But again, when you start looking closely and when you start seeing that it's a one size fits all situation, it's very easy for you to say: No, thanks, this is not for me. And even if you really think it's for you, I would say work with a professional to really see if it's for you, because really the professional should be looking at your current medications. The professional should be looking at your current supplements, if any. Your professional should be looking at your current problems, health problems, or the nuances that you have should be looking at you in a holistic way. Not just do you have hair loss or not? Do you have auto immune or not? Do you have androgenic or not? Do you have this or not?
The thing is, it's like everybody wants to put us in a box. This is why a lot of times the health care system doesn't work, because we are more than just a box. We are more than just a symptom, we are more than just a disease, a diagnosis, and our hair loss. We are so much more. And because we are so much more, we need to give credence to all these things that are so much more and we need to be looking at the full picture and when you're not looking at the full picture, things backfire. The cortisone shots backfire, the medications backfire, the strategy backfires, the way that you're thinking backfires.
And I gotta tell you I've worked with people with healthcare practitioners who without doing their full due diligence, they wanted to put me on a certain regime of some sort, and, I can see right through it now. I can see right through that, they want to put you in a box. They are assuming things and it's not necessarily healthy for you. I would probably garner that you probably will not see results with this type of approach. And so my other thing to you is celery juice is not the greatest in terms of hair loss. I don't recommend it. If you eat celery, that's a different situation. You can eat celery, I eat celery, I put it in my stews, I put it in my soups. Do I eat it every day? No, I use it just like I would anything else, just like any other vegetable.
And for those of you who love vegetables, great. You can add it in, but add in the whole vegetable. Don't just think that juicing celery on a regular basis is going to move the needle in terms of your hair loss. Cause again, it's actually going to cause more problems. Anything from the interactions with medications, to the blood sugar spikes, to the kidney problems, to the allergic reactions, to digestive issues, to skin sensitivity. And so much more. The other thing I wanted to mention about health care practitioners now that we're on the subject of it is that sometimes you need to be more discerning with them.
And I'm going to go ahead and tell you a story, a quick story about A client actually, she started the Hair N' Heal program for her child and her child, started the program and within 2 weeks started to see hair growth. And mom got a little impatient and wanted to see more hair growth and wanted to see more, just more of everything. And so she went to a second practitioner and the second practitioner gave this child a bunch of supplements. And without really looking at what he was currently taking or any current medications or anything else, she just blindly said, he needs to be taking these things. And so the mom incorporated them.
In a matter of 4 weeks, this is already when she's already a month or so in. In a matter of 2 weeks, she starts to see massive and rapid hair loss. And so she comes back to me, she's: Johanna, we've seen a second practitioner, this is the situation, this is what that second practitioner has been happening or has been recommending, and now from all the hair growth that we saw on your program, now my son is seeing hair loss, extreme hair loss. What's happening? How can you help us? And so I started asking questions. I started looking at the whole picture, lo and behold, there was. an overdose of certain supplements, there was an overdose of certain, vitamins, and this all contributed to his rapid hair loss.
And so fast forward, in just a week of eliminating the extra stuff that this other healthcare practitioner was doing, suggested, she's already seen hair growth again. And so the thing is, it's like when you have a strategy, stick to it. When you see that the strategy is working, stick to it and be consistent, stick to it and be consistent. And try not to get desperate. Try not to, want to do more, try not to want to get a second and a third and a fourth opinion. Not to say that it's not a bad thing. It's fine, you can get a second and a third opinion, but make sure that these opinions, these second and third recommendations, second and third, suggestions are coming from someone who's completely evaluated, you or your loved one or your child in this case, and has done so thoroughly making sure everything's in sync.
Because this other health care practitioner is not a hair loss expert and therefore recommendations from people who are not focused on hair loss, who are not focused on your well being who do not understand the full picture. It's cheap advice, it's cheap recommendations not to say they're not valid, but they're not valid for you. Does that make sense? Because I can Google something and say: Okay, how to heal my hair loss? And it's going to come up with a bunch of suggestions, but the internet doesn't tailor anything to me. It doesn't look at me, doesn't look at my full picture of what's going on.
And so this is the important part because again, whether or not you're boxed into a certain type of hair loss, It doesn't matter. You still need to look at the person as a whole. It's not just about the hair loss. And this is why, doctors have a very limited toolkit. This is why when we are going through hair loss, it is: Oh, you have female pattern baldness? Okay, take minoxidil, take Rogaine. Oh, you have stress induced? Okay, stop stressing. You have thyroid? Okay, let's put you on some thyroid meds. You have hormones? Okay let's put you on some birth control. You have autoimmune? Let's put you on some cortisone shots. Again, the situation out there is to box you in and to give you whatever that box says we need to give you. That's not how this is done. It truly isn't.
And I say this as someone who has healed herself successfully after a 4 year struggle. However, after 9 years of being alopecia free, without having to experience alopecia areata ever again because I'm in control, because I understand the nuances to me and I know what I can and cannot do. I know what is best for me, what's not best for me. I know what will lead to hair loss and won't lead to hair loss. And this is also why that now in my 40s I can grow over an inch of hair on a consistent basis each month.
The thing is, you need to understand you, and if you don't understand you, then I'm here to help, I'm here to help you understand you, your nuances, your situation, because you are more than just your hair, you are more than just your diagnosis, you are more than just your hair loss type. And, again, trying to hack this, for lack of a better word, with celery juice or with a certain diet or with a certain protocol. Again, it's a one size fits all. Everything needs to be tailored. This is why I've seen the success that I do in children, men and women from all over the world. Because again, it's a tailored approach. You follow it and you have your golden map. You have your golden map that will lead you to the finish line that will lead you to full hair growth.
And I would say for those of you who want the second and the third and the fourth and the fifth opinion, I get it. I was there. I was that person too. I had a gazillion opinions in Europe, I had a gazillion more in the US and so I was like, okay, forget them all. I'm going to go my own way and blaze my own trail and that's exactly what I did. But in your case, I totally understand. But I will say that perseverance and patience are your 2 things that you need the most. And once you're on the right track, keep going.
And I will say that there's no one better to guide you than someone who's been there, done that. And someone who's been there, done that for others as well, thousands of others. And so this is the key to your success.
So the celery juice, if you're on it, stop it immediately. Cause now you already know it comes with a bunch of warnings, a bunch of side effects, a bunch of issues that maybe are not happening right now, but maybe in the future it will. And why have kidney stones in the future? Why have skin cancer in the future? Why have allergic reactions, digestive issues and all these other things happen when you can just avoid all that and get on the right path? This is huge and viewing things from a one size fits all lens makes things so much better. So think about that the next time you purchase something, think about that the next time you want to upgrade yourself and your health because your health is not a one size fits all.
We can buy a computer, we can buy a car, we can buy a house, and even then none of it is a one size fits all. It may, put a roof over everyone's head, it may have a toilet that works for everybody, but at the same time, we're all going to have our own decor taste, our own way of, wanting to have layouts and colors and decorations and the paint job and everything else. It's never going to be just the stock model. It never is, it's always going to be different. And so when it comes to our health, this is a priority and this is key. It can't be a one size fits all. It can't be, cortisone shots for everybody and expect it to work because it won't work. It can't be minoxidil for everybody and think it's going to work because it won't work. It can't be celery juice for everybody with hair loss and think it's going to work because lo and behold, I'm seeing that it only backfires. I only see that it only backfires.
So don't put yourself in this black hole of sorts because literally it takes a minute for you to dig yourself out. Once you're on the right track, it takes a minute for your body to recalibrate. You can't recalibrate overnight, but if you give me those 8 weeks or less, we can start to see that hair growth, we can start to see these deficiencies, nutritional deficiencies. These deficiencies in general that have happened with you on the celery juice diet, we can overcome it. Your body can overcome most anything. It's very resilient, but why put yourself in that place to begin with? It just doesn't make sense to me. And, after reading that book myself. I've never done the celery juice diet, by the way, after reading that book myself, though, any person would be able to see right through there, right through that and say, this is unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.
How is it that you're saying that just with a celery juice diet and a handful of supplements, anyone can kill themselves, anything from hair loss to cancer, to, auto immune diseases to, you name it, prostate to anything else, kidney stones and anything else that's going on. And I would say, again, not a tailored approach. Because most of these people, if you think about it most of these people who have these diagnosis who have these concerns are probably over the age of 20 more than likely. And so again, they're probably already taking medications, they're probably already taking, supplements maybe not. They're already having a certain type of diet and lifestyle and
ust adding in celery juice isn't the eureka moment that's going to heal all their nuances, all their health concerns, all their issues. It doesn't work that way. There's more to it.
And not to say that juicing isn't beneficial, juicing is fine, but at the same time, it's what we do on a daily basis on an everyday basis that can backfire. So think about that for a second, because if you're starting to juice or starting to do the celery juice diet, or you've let's say you're midway through it, you'll probably start to see in the beginning, maybe some positive aspects of it and, you may start to see those situations start to sprout out because that's how it is. It takes time for bad things to come about. And so think about that the next time you want to try any type of one size fits all diet or approach to healing. Because again, it needs to be personalized. And this is what we do inside the Hair N' Heal.
